- MRS. MARIE OPPERTSHAUSER
The death occurred very suddenly of Mrs. Marie Oppertshauser on Saturday, May 13th, at her home on William Street. Mrs. Oppertshauser had apparently been in her usual good health going about her daily duties during the early part of the day. Shortly after dinner time, she was noticed to slump and a hurried call to her son, Milton, who was nearby, brought a ready response. The grim reaper had made a hasty call, death being due to heart ailment. Mrs. Oppertshauser succumbed almost immediately.
Born 61 years ago in Sebewaing, Mich., she came to Canada with her husband 36 years ago, and resided on a farm three and one-half miles northeast of Elmira. For the past 24 years she had been a resident of Elmira. Married in Michigan to John Oppertshauser on May 10th,1898, her husband predeceased her.
Mrs. Oppertshauser was an ardent adherent to the St. James' Lutheran Church and took an active part in its organizations, being a member of the Ladies' Aid Society and the Women's Missionary Society.
Two sons survive, Milton and Walter, of Elmira. Two brothers, John of Detroit, Mich., and Fred, Saginaw, Mich., one sister, Mrs. Arthur Notter, of Tacoma, Wash., and two daughters, Marie, Mrs. Cecil Heipel, of Waterloo and Eleanor, Mrs. Chas. Miller, Kitchener, also survive. The grandchildren are Elaine, Helen, Robert and Ronald Miller.
Funeral services were held from the home and St. James' Church on Tuesday afternoon. Rev. L.H. Kalbfleisch, pastor in St. James' Church, officiating at the services and graveside. Interment took place in Elmira Union Cemetery.
