Born on June 15, 1914 in Claremont, near Stouffville, Ontario, Alice was the oldest child of John and Lucinda (Reesor) Drudge. The family moved to Linwood when Alice was young. She married Moses Martin of St. Jacobs on October 19, 1937. They lived in Waterloo until 1943 and then moved to St. Jacobs. In 1952 the house beside Moses Martin's Garage was built, and they lived there until they retired to a condo in Kitchener in 1987. Moses died in 1995. In 2000 she moved to Lanark Place Retirement Home. In 2006 she moved to Pinehaven Nursing Home. Alice was a devoted, loving mother and friend to many. She liked to send cheer to others by way of cards, letters or flowers. Her hobbies included embroidery, visiting, and gardening. Because of her passion for flowers, she became known as "the flower lady" at her condo, Lanark Place, and Pinehaven. Alice will always be remembered for her joyful spirit, her generous heart and her caring for others. A special thank you to the caring staff at Pinehaven Nursing Home; and her "Shepherd" from St. Jacobs Mennonite Church, Gloria Shantz. "My mother kept a garden, a garden of the heart She planted all the good things that gave my life a start I am my mother's garden, I am her legacy I hope today she feels the love reflected back from me."
