    • WAS A NOBLE WOMAN

The late Ruth Beemer of Sheffield, who died last week, was born in the township of Dumfries, near George on January 22, 1827. St. She was united in marriage on January 24, 1853, to Mr. Christopher Ricker, by Rev. T. Ferguson. At the age of 19, under the ministry of Rev. Matthew Whiting, she was converted to God, and for over 50 years she was a member of the Methodist church in the village of Sheffield. Her death was a most peaceful one. The deceased will be remembered for her many labors, both in her home and in the church. Her home has been the scene of many a social gathering in the interest of the work of the church, and no effort was spared by her to ensure success. The itinerant of many years ago will remember the open-heartedness that assured him of a stopping-place; every wayfarer was welcomed to her home. The funeral service was held in the church and was largely attended, showing how many friends the deceased had. The pastor was assisted in the services by Rev. C. T. Bennett of St. George, and Rev. J. E. Baillie of Troy. Her aged companion of 60 years together with three sons and four daughters, mourn her loss. The deceased is also survived by three brothers and two sisters. Two of the sons are Henry Beemer, head of one of the United States insurance companies and Mr. Joseph Beemer who resides near Lyn-den. Mrs. Henry Kerr, Brant ave., is a niece of the deceased.

There died on Tuesday afternoon at her home in Sheffield, Mrs. Christopher Ricker, in the true and strict sense of the word a pioneer of this section, he having been born in Dumfries township 76 years ago, and lived here continuously since. More than 50 years ago she married Christopher Ricker and since that time, both in conjunction with her husband and since his death, had played a prominent part in the affairs of Beverly township, where, with her husband, she settled, and particularly in its religious life. Mrs. Ricker was an earnest and active worker in the Methodist church, and identified with all good work that tended to the betterment and added to the comfort of the community, and many will held her in grateful remembrance. Beside her husband she leaves to mourn her loss three sons and four daughters: Joseph, Beverly: David Ricker, Troy: George, Branchton: Mrs. Bond, Puslinch; Mrs. Hattrick, Mrs. Main, Sheffield: Mrs. Munson, near Sheffield.
