- Charge in nine-year-old killing - Kitchener (CP) - Waterloo regional police say they have solved a nine-year-old murder case in which a 62 year old man was killed and his body parts dumped in a Kitchener swamp. William Brown, 30, faces a second-degree murder charge in connection with the death of Robert Hessel, who disappeared on July 16, 1993. Five years later, on Dec 4, 1998, children found Hessel's skeletal remains in a conservation area. Brown was arrested Tuesday.

______________
The body was found on River Road near Manchester in Kitchener. It was a very dry time period and the children found the body, first the skull then the police found the rest.

December 1998: The skeletal remains of Robert Hessel, 62, of Kitchener were found by children in a swampy section of Stanley Park Conservation Area off River Road in Kitchener. A weeklong search by police recovered 40 bones, including a skull and a jaw with teeth.
Dental records identified Hessel who went missing five years earlier in July 1993. William Brown was charged with his murder, but was eventually set free in a Kitchener courtroom after Jesse Lord, a key witness, recanted a statement he gave police about a jailhouse confession.
