  SHANTZ, Arley - Passed away on Monday January 19, 2009, at Grand River Hospital, Freeport Health Centre, Kitchener. Arley resided in New Hamburg and was formerly of RR 2, Petersburg. He was born 80 years ago in Wilmot Township and was the son of the late Manassah and Louida (Cressman) Shantz. Beloved husband of Mabel (Zehr) Shantz whom he married January 27, 1961. Loving father of Robert and wife Pat Roi of RR 1 Millgrove, Donald and wife Anne Roi of Shallow Lake, Mary Lou Shantz of Wellesley, Susan Shantz of Courtney, B.C. Sadly missed by his grandchildren, Teresa Roi and friend Rick Woodcox, Bradley Roi, Jonathan Roi, Melissa Baer, Laura Baer, Daniel Baer and Katie Baer and predeceased by granddaughter, Sherri Roi. Also remembered by sisters, Etta Shantz of Cambridge, Ida and husband Lloyd Schwartzentruber of Kitchener; brother, Robert and wife Lena Shantz of New Hamburg; sisters-in-law, Helen Shantz, Ruby Bender, Ada Zehr, all of New Hamburg, Irene Shantz, Marie Shantz, Helen Shantz, all of Kitchener, Kay Sommers of Stratford and Marilyn Zehr of Woodstock. Arley was predeceased by brothers, Howard and wife Hilda Shantz, Wilfred and Selda Shantz, Nyal Shantz, Armand Shantz, Mahlon Shantz, Ion Shantz and sister, Esther and husband Aaron Enns. Arley was a member of Wilmot Mennonite Church, Baden. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, umpiring many softball games in the area and volunteering with Community Care Concepts. He was a director with Mennonite Aid Union for many years. Family and friends may call at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home , 291 Huron Street, New Hamburg tonight (Wednesday) from 7-9 p.m. and again on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The interment will take place on Friday January 23, 2009 at 1 p.m. at Wilmot Mennonite Cemetery, Baden. The service to celebrate Arley's life will take place following the interment at Wilmot Mennonite Church, Baden at 2 p.m. As expressions of sympathy donations may be made to the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre or Wilmot Mennonite Church.
