  Wilfrid Laurier student, 22, drowns on rafting trip by Jeff Outhit Waterloo Region Record WATERLOO - Chuck Ozulumba, 22, went rafting on the Ottawa River with other Wilfrid Laurier University students. He drowned and the campus is in mourning, with flags lowered to half-mast. The drowning occurred on Friday just before 6: 30 p.m. near Renfrew. Ozulumba, from Markham, was on an outing with Owl Rafting. A student in business administration, he was preparing to enter his fourth year at Laurier, studying on the Waterloo campus. Laurier's dean of students has been in touch with his family to offer sympathy and support. The loss has had a deep impact on the Laurier community, the school said in a statement. Ozulumba was on a weekend excursion with other Laurier students, the university said. The school is extending support and counselling to affected students and others who knew him. According to the Renfrew Mercury, OPP officers, paramedics and firefighters responded after a swimmer was reported to have gone under water. Ozulumba was found and pulled to shore, where resuscitation efforts were started. He was taken to hospital by paramedics and pronounced dead. A coroner is leading the investigation, assisted by the Renfrew OPP. An autopsy has been scheduled, and foul play is not suspected. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m. at Chapel Ridge Funeral Home, 8911 Woodbine Ave. in Markham.
