      Miss Helen M. MacRae Meets Tragic Death from Burns Received at Open Fireplace


      Many friends and relatives gathered at the W, O. Ball Funeral Parlor on Sunday afternoon to pay their last respects to the late Miss Helen Marjorie MacRae, who died in St. Michael'a Hospital, Toronto, on Thursday from burns received when her clothing caught fire at an open fireplace on. November 26 while at the home of her mother, Mrs. J. D. MacRae, in Toronto. Interment was in Ayr,Cemetery.

      Rev. R. A. Steed officiated at the funeral services and was assisted by Rev. J. W. Currie. Ary; Rev. Andrew Thomson, formerly of Honan, China, and Rev, Miriam Collins of Hamilton. The pallbearers were: George and Andrew Stockton, Thomas Holder, Douglas Perry, Murray McRae , and Neil McRae of Brantford.

      The late Miss MacRae was a niece of Murdo and Alex McRae and Mrs. Sheldon Stockton, and she was well known to many in the Ayr district. She was assistant to the chief librarian at Niagara Falls.

      Born in Honan, China , where her father, the late Rev. J. D. MacRae, was a missionary, she graduated from Victoria University in 1936 and later from the library school, University of Toronto. She was a member of North Broadview United Church and was active in the Canadian Youth Hostel Association. Surviving, besides her mother, are a brother, Rev. Donald MacRae, St. George's United Church, and a sister, Miss Kathleen MacRae, Toronto.
