One of the Oldest Residents of Brant County Passes in 96th Year

RICHWOOD, Jan. 16 - One of the oldest residents of Brant County in the person of Charlotte (Rachar) Stockton, passed away at the home of her son and daughter, Frank Stockton and Miss Maud Stockton, of Paris, on Sunday afternoon. Born in Beverly Township in June, 1839, she was in her 96th year. She came to this community at the age of fourteen and was married in early womanhood to Andrew Stockton. Seven children blessed the union, of whom five survive: Sheldon, on the homestead near Ayr; William, of Flint, Mich.; Frank, of Paris; Mrs. Franklin, Smoke, and Miss Maud Stockton, also of Paris, while one daughter, Mrs. J. O. Given, and one son, Dr. George Stockton, of Idaho, U.S.A., predeceased her some years ago. Her husband, who was one of the early pioneers on the town line, was of U. E. Loyalist descent. He came from New Brunswick and cleared and settled his own farm. He died 35 years ago. The late Mrs. Stockton had the distinction of being a great-great-grandmother. She was a woman of sterling character, a kind and devoted mother and will be missed by a large circle of friends. The funeral will be held on Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 17, from the home of her son, Frank Stockton, with interment in the Ayr Cemetery.
