- Undertakers and Funeral Parlours in Aylmer
One of the earliest references to the undertaking business in Aylmer is Aldrich's Pocket Directory of 1888 which shows Caulfield & Co. Furniture & Undertaking at 29 Talbot Street East, and Lambert & Low, Manufacturers of Furniture & Organs, at 1 Talbot Street West. J. L. Lambert is listed as an undertaker in the Aylmer Express of 1893. He later entered into partnership with George A. Allen, which was dissolved in 1917. (a more detailed history of George Allen's business can be found under his name on this website).
Other early undertakers listed in the Aylmer Express were A. J. Anderson (listed in issues between 1901 and 1905); Alvin Cronk (listed in issues between 1893 and 1907); Mr. Gracey (1904); John Palmer (listed in issues between 1901 and 1907, and joined by William Palmer in 1907); and C. L. Young (listed in issues between 1905 and 1907; joined by W. James Young in 1907).
