Notes |
- WEBER, Ethel Amanda (Witmer) September 6, 1909 - February 23, 2006 Ethel died peacefully at Fairview Mennonite Home, surrounded by members of her family on Thursday, February 23, 2006, in her 97th year. She was the beloved wife of Byron S. Weber who predeceased her July 17, 1989; the loving mother of Virginia (Gini) Letkemann, and loving grandmother of Lisa, Joel and Jonathan Letkemann. She is survived by brothers, Leonard Witmer and Clifford (Doris) Witmer; and sisters, Violet (Irvin) Manske and Barbara (Walter) Cook. Ethel was predeceased by brothers, Wilfred, Lloyd and Raymond and sisters, Flossie and Beulah. Born in Plattsville, Ethel regretted she was not able to continue her education past elementary school and become a school teacher. Instead, she worked out as a hired girl from the time she was 13, then spent 19 years ironing shirts at Cluett's in Kitchener. She married Byron on September 6, 1947, and had one daughter, Virginia. She divided her time between being a homemaker, helping her husband and their family grocery store, and being actively involved at Stirling Avenue Mennonite Church. She loved and enjoyed being with her family and friends, entertaining in her home when younger, and gratefully receiving visitors at Fairview Mennonite Home when she grew older. She was a woman of faith, who loved and followed the Lord throughout her life -- demonstrating her love by actions rather than words. Family and friends are invited to share their memories of Ethel at Fairview Mennonite Home, 515 Langs Dr. in Cambridge, on Sunday from 2: 30-4: 30 p.m. The funeral service to celebrate her life and homegoing will also be held at Fairview Mennonite Home at 1 p.m. Monday, February 27, 2006. Interment Woodland Cemetery, Kitchener. In memory of Ethel, donations may be made to the WMA of Stirling Avenue Mennonite Church, MCC, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario, and can be arranged through the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home at 745-9495, or on-line at www.ratzbechtelfuneralhome.com.
