  Painful Burns Received By Citizen Proved Fatal Live Coal Set Fire to Clothing of Mr. Oscar Marchand at Doon Twines at 4 o'clock This Morning A fatality occurred in the city today. As the result of burns received in a mishap, Mr. Oscar Marchand of Chestnut Street is dead. Mr. Marchand while working at the Doon Twine Company at 4 o'clock this morning was poking one of the fires. A live coal was pulled out which ignited is clothing. While he immediately rolled about in the snow he was badly burned on his legs, body and chest, after the greater part of his clothing had been burned. He was rushed to the hospital soon afterwards where medical skill was applied in an effort to save his life. His condition, it was evident was very critical, but the best of hopes were entertained for his recovery. Unfortunately, however, the injuries were of such a nature that a rally did not come and he passed away at 1:15 o'clock this afternoon. The deceased was about sixty years of age and was born in Switzerland. He is survived by his wife and children. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church. He had many friends and enjoyed the high respect of all. A city's sympathy goes out to the bereaved wife and children in the hours of the painful affliction. Daily Record Dec 26 1919 pg 1
