- Milt Schmitt, Ex-Eaton Head, Dies
Former manager of the T. Eaton Company Ltd. store here Milton Henry (Milt) Schmitt, 74, died last night of a heart attack at his home, 479 Lancaster St. West, Bridgeport.
He was found dead today seated in a chair in front of the television set which was still on.
Born Sept. 6, 1887, in Tavistock, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Schmitt. He spent most of his business career in Kitchener. Mr. Schmitt joined the Lang-Tracey Company one of Kitchener's pioneer retail stores in 1910 and managed the furniture department when the firm sold out to Eaton's in 1927.
Mr. Schmitt transferred to the Eaton staff and was named manager in 1930.
His wife, the former Maude Elizabeth Gastmeier, predeceased him Dec 1, 1958. He was a member of Zion Evangelical United Brethren Church and the Retired Business and Professional Men's Club.
Surviving are two sons: Donald E. G. of Noranda, Que., Murray H. of Kitchener, three brothers, J. Albert Smith of Kitchener, Samuel O. Smith of Wilsons, August Schmitt of Howell, Mich., and eight grand-children. A daughter, Doris, two brothers and two sisters also predeceased him.
The body is at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home where service will be conducted Saturday at 2 pm by Rev. F. M. Faist and Rev. G. F. Barthel. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery. Photo attached to obit. Passes - M. H. (Milt) Schmitt, 74, former manager of T. Eaton Company Kitchener store, died today.
