- BRUDER, Ralph Joseph - Born in Breslau on September 9, 1919 passed away peacefully at Lanark Heights Long Term Care Centre on Monday, May 5, 2008 in his 89th year. Loving husband of Doris Bruder (nee Offen) for 60 years. Survived by his sisters, Marjorie Ireland of Richmond Hill and Phyllis "Honey" Boppre (Larry) of Kitchener. He is also survived by 23 nieces and nephews and many friends. Predeceased by his parents, Clara (nee Reinhart) and Peter Bruder; brother, Maurice (Sally) and by his sister, Rita Gross (Rudy). Ralph worked in the hotel business most of his life. In 1928, at the age of nine, he started as a bell hop at the Windsor Hotel in Kitchener at which time was owned by his uncle, Charlie Bruder. He later worked at the Blue Top Brewery Company and in 1948 became an owner of the Melbourne Hotel in Simcoe, ON which he managed for 35 years. Ralph was a member of the Hotel and Motel Association, a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and a honourary member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. He was actively involved in harness racing and was a honourary member of the Ontario Harness Horse Association. Ralph's family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Henry Walser Funeral Home , 507 Frederick St., Kitchener. Ralph's funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2008 at 3 p.m. followed by a reception. A private family interment will take place at St. Boniface Cemetery, Maryhill. The Family would like to thank the staff at Lanark Heights for all the caring and compassionate care given to Ralph. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association or Grand River Hospital would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
