Man Who Predicted Flights to Moon Dies
When Allan S. Snider of Parkway first predicted that humans would reach the moon by flight, the idea seemed fantastic. But he nearly lived to see his forecast come true.
Mr. Snider, now 97, died last night at his home after a brief illness.
Despite his advanced age, he followed news of satellite launchings with keen interest and was confident that space travel and a. wonderful new era in the history of mankind, is unfolding swiftly.
INTERESTED IN POLITICS
A flour miller by trade, he was an amateur inventor as a younger man and had a lifetime interest in politics. Born at Parkway, then called German Mills, Oct. 29, 1861, Mr. Snider was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Snider. His wife the former Annie Schroeder, died in 1946.
He served his apprenticeship as a miller at New Dundee and later worked at St. Jacobs, Ayton, Detroit and Killarney, Manitoba, retiring in 1937. Later he was caretaker of Parkway School.
Mr. Snider was a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church.
