- Simon Clemens, 69, Musician, Passes
Simon Clemens, 69, prominent for many years in musical circles in southern Kent county and in Allegan and Barry counties, died Friday afternoon at his home in Gaines township, where he had lived all his life.
Mr. Clemens organized and directed bands and orchestra, taught music privately and served many schools in his part of the county. His services were in great demand for dances, parties and reunions.
Surviving are the widow; a brother, Alvin Clemens, Grand Rapids musician, and a half-sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Bingamen, who resides in the state of Washington.
Funeral services were held at 2 p. m. Sunday at the Cross funeral home in Caledonia under auspices of the Caledonia Masonic lodge. Burial was in Gaines cemetery.
