Notes |
- Isaac Moyer Weaver," brother of Rev. Solomon Weber, was born November 23rd, 1821, came to Canada in 1844 and settled in Waterloo County, Ontario. He resides in the towns of Berlin and Waterloo for some twenty years. Some time during the latter part of the sixties he moved west to North Dakota where he died May 6th, 1889. He was married to Mary Ann, daughter of the late John Hoffman. She died in Berlin, April 6th, 1886, aged 55 years. To them was born a family of five children"
Eby, Ezra E. (1895). A biographical history of Waterloo township and other townships of the county: being a history of the early settlers and their descendants, mostly all of Pennsylvania Dutch origin: as also much other unpublished historical information chiefly of a local character. Death of an Old Citizen
The family of Isaac M. Weaver, for many years a resident of Berlin and Waterloo, have recently received intelligence that he died last week in Detroit. The contemplation of his career must cause sadness to every heart. For many years he was a member of the old firm of J. Hoffman & Co., Berlin having generally the management of the large army of men which that firm employed. We believe he had no superior as a mechanic, and few men meet with the success which attended his early years. When the old firm dissolved - some twenty two or three years ago - the late Jacob Hoffman purchased the interest in the business of his partners and they at once entered upon a new business in Waterloo, where they purchased mills and a large amount of land. The new firm of Hoffman and Weaver was so prosperous that Mr. Weaver was able to put up a splendid residence now occupied by Mr. Geo. Randall. At that time ,he must have been worth a very large amount of money, but after disposing of his mills, and retiring from business, things took a change for the worse. To make a long story short the once active man of business and leading manufacturer took to drinking, lost his property, abandoned his family and died in poverty amongst strangers. It is sad lesson and should be a solemn warning to all not to follow in his footsteps. We are sure all our readers will unite with us in sorrow that a career which was once so promising should end so sadly.

Not Dead.
Mr. Isaac M. Weaver, formerly of this town, has written a letter to his family here to assure them that he is not dead - that the report which was received here some months ago of his supposed demise, must have been referred to some other man. To make assurances doubly sure, he has enclosed a photograph of himself, from which his friends can see that, though somewhat older, he looks remarkably well - better in fact than when he left. He is at present residing in Illinois.
