- Charled Edward Baker Puslinch Lake resident (R. R. #2, Hespeler), in Guelph General Hospital, on Monday, September 7, 1952, aged 34 years, as a result of crushing injuries received in a car crash on Saturday afternoon, around 3 p. m. , Sept. 5th on the Guelph-Puslinch Lake highway, when driving home from his work. The collision occurred at the intersection by the little red church, when a car came through the intersection heading towards Hespeler and Mr. Baker's car entered the intersection proceeding towards the Lake. Mr. Baker's car ended up near the church gates. He was removed to hospital suffering a broken collarbone, three broken ribs, chest head and leg injuries. His car was a a total loss. The other driver was charged with driving while his ability was impaired. Mr. and Mrs. Baker had just moved to the Lake in June and he was building a home there. Husband of Doris Irene Hatfield. Father of Charles, 12; Linda Rose, 3; Bertina, 2; Margaret, 3 months; Ann, 7; Russell, 6; John, 9, Ezekiel, 10. Also survived by three brothers, Wallace, Lancie and Wilson Baker, all of Middle Sackville, NS; two step-brothers, Keith and Lindsay of St. Croix, Halifax County, NS; and a step-sister, Marjorie of Montreal. The Bakers came from the Maritimes in 1949, where Mr. Baker was born in East Jeddore, Halifax County, Nova Scotia in 1920, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ezekiel Baker. On September 15, 1940, he married Doris Hatfield of Picton, NS. They had resided in this area for the past four years. Mr. Baker was an employee of the Gypsum Lime and Alabastine plant at Glen Christie. Service at the Stager Funeral Home, Galt St. , Hespeler on Thurs. , Sept. 10 at 2, with interment in Hespeler Cemetery. Rev. Harold Hindry conducted the service.
