- HANTZ, Willard G. - Born October 4, 1916 passed away, peacefully of natural causes, on June 7, 2005. For many years Willard was the proprietor of Willard's Lunch, a restaurant once located near the Kitchener Farmer's Market. Subsequently, Willard worked for Dare Cookies, from which job he retired at the age of 68. Willard is predeceased by parents, Alvin and Florence (nee Duncan); and brothers, Nelson, Floyd and Howard Shantz, all of Kitchener. Willard is survived by his sister Alice Shantz, also of Kitchener; his beloved wife Catherine (nee Schwartz); and son Bryan Shantz of Kitchener, son Dr. Willard E. Shantz of Barrie; and grandchildren, Nicole and Jeremy, both of Toronto. Special thanks to the staff of The Westmount for their exceptional care of Willard, and their thoughtful consideration of his family. The family will receive friends at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, 621 King Street,W, Kitchener, on Thursday (today) from 7-9 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Anne's Roman Catholic Church, 268 East Avenue, on Friday at 2 p.m. Vigil Prayers will be recited at the funeral home Thursday (tonight) at 8:45pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Ontario or the charity of your choice.
