    • Former Resident Dies Suddenly At Hespeler

      Many New Hamburg friends were sorry to learn of the death of Charles Highton which occurred at Hespeler last Friday evening. Mr. Highton was stricken with a heart attack and succumbed suddenly as he was walking along the street to where his car was parked in front of the town hall. He was 65 years of age. The late Mr. Highton was a former well known resident of New Hamburg, having been employed with Mr. Charles Hildebrand as a drayman for some years when the latter operated the local bus line. His brother, Francis Highton, now of Hespeler, visited here several weeks ago. Mr. Highton was a native of Derbyshire, England, and came to New Hamburg in 1906. For the past 37 years he had resided in Hespeler where he was employed at the Dominion Woollens and Worsteds Ltd. .

      An enthusiastic sportsman, Mr. Highton was a deputy game warden, and a member of the Preston Rod and Gun club. He was also a member of the Hespeler Legion branch and a member of the Baptist Church in Hespeler. His wife, the former Margaret Hart, predeceased him in 1938. Surviving are seven children, Thomas of Hespeler, Harold of Essex; Mrs. Gordon Columbus (Marjorie), Kitchener; Mrs. Donald Bower (Hazel), Hespeler; Mrs. Leonard Nagle (Elsie), Stratford; Mrs. Thomas McMaster (Kathleen), Hespeler; and Mrs. Leslie McIntosh (Rosalie), Petrolia. Also surviving are a brother, Francis Highton, Hespeler, a sister, Mrs. H. J : Cholerton, Derbyshire, Eng., and nine grandchildren.

      The funeral was held on Monday afternoon with service at the Stager Funeral Home, Hespeler, and burial in the Hespeler Cemetery.
