- SELKE, CSJ, Sister Enid Died peacefully at the Sisters of St. Joseph Residence, 2 O'Connor Drive, Toronto, Ontario, December 17, 2018 in the 77th year of her religious life. She was predeceased by her parents, Frank Joseph Selke and Mary Agnes (Schmidt) Selke, her sisters Blanche and Evelyn and her brothers John and Frank D. Selke Jr. She is survived by her sisters Delphine (Condon) and Geraldine Selke and lovingly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, friends and sisters in community. Sister Enid grew up in St. Monica's parish in Toronto and attended St. Joseph's College School, where she was taught by the Sisters of St. Joseph. In 1941, she entered the congregation and served in the ministry of education as a teacher and principal in Toronto, St. Catharines and Prince Rupert, British Columbia. Sister Enid lived the charism of the congregation as she brought love and unity to many situations. Gifted as a teacher and organizer she continued to use her talents for teaching outside the formal classroom in Kapuskasing, Ontario. While there, in 1986, in memory of her late father, Sister Enid, in collaboration with others, founded the Frank J. Selke Memorial Resource Centre for pastoral education and adult faith development. She was treasured by many of the people of Kapuskasing and the surrounding area, where she ministered for 34 years. In 2016, as Sister Enid's health began to decline she had to leave her mission in Kapuskasing and return to Toronto. Recently, she has resided at Sisters of Joseph Care Centre, where she prayed for the needs of new Canadian families struggling to make their home in Toronto, among other needs. Visitation will take place at the Sisters of St. Joseph Residence, 2 O'Connor Drive, Toronto, ON, on Friday, December 21, 2018 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., with a Prayer Vigil at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 22, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel at 2 O'Connor Drive, Toronto, Ontario.
