- Died at Hamilton
The death occurred at St. Joseph's Hospital, Hamilton, last Friday morning of Sister Mary Alphonsine, daughter of Mr. Nicholas Schmidt and the late Alphonsine Fischer at the age of 30 years and 10 months. About three weeks ago she took ill with an attack of inflammatory rheumatism which affected her heart and caused her demise. She was born in Birnamwood, Wisc., but spent her school days in New Hamburg and later moved with her parents to Kitchener. About eight years ago she joined St. Joseph's Order at Hamilton and for the past three years had charge of the office in St. Joseph's Hospital. The news of her death was received with deep regret by her many relatives and friends in New Hamburg. Surviving are her father, Nicholas Schmidt, and five sisters, Anna, Clara and Elaine, all of Kitchener; sister M. St. Pius, Hamilton, and Mrs. Frank J. Selke, of Toronto, and four brothers, Emil, of New Hamburg, Thomas and Raymond, of Kitchener, and Edward, of Timmins. The funeral was held on Monday morning. The funeral mass was sung by Bishop McNally, assisted by Fr. Benninger, of Hamilton. A large circle of priests, doctors, Sisters, nurses and friends assembled to pay their last tribute of respect to the departed. The pallbearers were: William Collin and F. McTaggart, of Kitchener, John Fischer, Vincent Scherer, Jerome Scherer and Alex Brenner, of New Hamburg. Following the funeral service at St. Joseph's Chapel, the remains were laid to rest in St. Joseph's R.C. Cemetery, Hamilton.
