A former well-known resident and business man of New Hamburg, in the person of Valentine C. Wenzel, passed away at the hospital at Santa Barbara, California, on Tuesday, August 3rd, 1926. He was in this 61st year and had been in failing health for several months. The late Mr. Wenzel was born October 13th, 1865, near Tavistock, Ontario. He was married in 1898 to Miss Anna Park in Wingham, Ontario, where the family resided for several years. In the fall of 1907 Mr. Wenzel became one of the firm of the Schierholtz Furniture Company of New Hamburg (now the New Hamburg Furniture Company) and was a respected citizen and member of the firm from then till the summer of 1925, when he removed to Santa Barbara. Besides his sorrowing widow he leaves one daughter, (Grace), Mrs. Wilfred Berscht, of Santa Barbara, and three brothers, Louis, of Listowel, Thomas, of Kitchener, and Nicholas, of Santa Barbara. One daughter, Florence, predeceased him seven years ago. The late Mr. Wenzel was a devoted Methodist by faith and a member of both the Independent and Canadian Order of Forresters. Funeral services were held at Santa Barbara at 4 p.m., on August 4th, following which cremation occurred. The remains will be sent to New Hamburg to rest in the family plot. The late Mr. Wenzel's many friends in New Hamburg were very sorry to hear of his death and the symmpathy of their many friends here goes out to the bereaved wife and daughter in their sad loss.
