- Reinhardt Frederick "Fred" Karrow Superintendent RCMP (retired) 1907 - 2007 Died February 6, 2007 at Victoria Place, Kitchener in his 100th year. Born in Kitchener June 14, 1907, he grew up on Waterloo Street and attended Kitchener Collegiate. He married Bertha (Bert) Elzina Bilton in 1927. He was with Canada Customs-Excise Preventive Service in Sault Ste. Marie for three years and, with its absorption into the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in 1930 was subsequently stationed in Port Stanley, St. Thomas, Amherstburg, Sarnia, Toronto, Halifax and Sydney, Nova Scotia, Ottawa and Toronto. He rose to the rank of Superintendent and retired at the end of 1957. Fred and Bert purchased the former Bilton farm near Holstein and raised sheep for many years after his retirement. He was active in community curling and served on the Mount Forest Hospital Board, including Chair. Fred was predeceased by his parents, Henry Karrow and Elizabeth Neuhaus; stepmother, Sarah Jane Acton of Chesley, wife of 65 years Bert; brother, Clayton Henry and sister-in-law, Phyllis Anne Guymer of Cobourg. He is survived by his son, Paul Frederick and daughter-in-law, Beth McCormick; four grandchildren, Douglas (Beth), Niel (Jodie), Sheila (Jeff Garrett) and Tom; as well as eight great-grandchildren. In the last several years Fred enjoyed the loving companionship of his friend Elisabeth Vogel while living in Waterloo and Kitchener. The memorial service to celebrate Fred's life and faith will be held in the chapel of the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Saturday, February 17, 2007 at 1 p.m., the Rev. Richard Hawley officiating. Reception to follow. Donations may be made to the Louise Marshall Hospital Foundation in Mount Forest, Grand River Hospital, or St. Mary's Hospital Foundation and can be arranged through the funeral home, 519-745-8445 or www.erbgood.com In living memory of Fred, a tree will be planted through the Trees for Learning Program by the funeral home.
