    • Larry passed away peacefully and surrounded by family, Thursday, August 8, 2002 at K-W Health Centre of Grand River Hospital after a valiant battle with cancer. He was 67.

      Larry was the best friend and dear husband for nearly 44 years of Carol (Smith), beloved father of Leslie Merkley (Leigh Abbass), Brenda Heideman (Brent Acorn) and David and Mary-Louise Heideman, and cherished "Papa" of Sarah and Joshua Merkley and Joel and Ryan Heideman all of Kitchener. Larry was predeceased by his parents Gerine Snyder and Herbert Heideman, sisters Rita Elchert, Betty Reiner and Doris Heideman, and brother Herbert Heideman.

      He will be sorely missed by his surviving siblings Arlene and Charlie Bieth, Audrey and Gerald Moser, Joan and Dave Knorr, Robert and Gail Heideman, Ronald and Pat Heideman, as well as his in-laws Dorothy St. Jean, Betty and Lee Murray, Marion and Frank Hopper, Shirley Heideman and Alex Elchert. He will also be remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends.

      Larry belonged to the Waterloo Siskens hockey club during the early 1950s. Larry retired from Forwell Sand and Gravel where he worked as office manager for 28 years. More recently he was a member of the Moose Lodge horseshoe league and R.C.L. Branch 412. In his retirement, Larry enjoyed playing cards, running the Saturday afternoon draws at the Legion, golfing and spending time at his cottage on Belwood Lake.

      Larry's family will receive friends and relatives from 7: 00 - 9: 00 PM Saturday and 2: 00 - 4: 00 and 7: 00 - 9: 00 PM on Sunday at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St., Kitchener (749-8467).

      Funeral service 10: 30 AM Monday August 12, 2002 at Stanley Park Baptist Church (31 Lorraine Ave., Kitchener).

      Interment Woodland Cemetery, Kitchener followed by a reception at the church.

      In lieu of flowers donations to the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre or Hope Spring Support Centre would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
