Notes |
- News of the death of nursing sister, Daisy Black Carter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. J. Black, 118 Shanley street, and wife of Mr. H.E. Carter of Ottawa came as a shock to her friends in Kitchener who had the pleasure of meeting her during a visit to this city not many months ago.
Mrs. Carter is the first of the group of nursing sisters enlisting from Kitchener and Waterloo in the service of King and Country overseas to pass into the great beyond. Joining the Canadian Army Medical Nursing Service early in March 1917 her overseas experience included service in the Canadian general hospitals at Basingstoke and Brighton. Nursing Sister Black returned to Canada in September 1919 as the bride of Staff Sergt. Carter, now of the department of militia and defence, Ottawa. She has resided in Ottawa since her return to Canada where her husband and their two sons live. Friends of Mrs. Carter in this city recall that her devotion to duty during her experience as a private duty nurse and later in her overseas capacity was inspiring.
