- THE BEESE FAMILY
Karl and William Beese
Karl (Charles) Beese was a stonemason. He immigrated to Canada with his family in 1850. His son, William (1842 - August 2, 1915), born in Krackow, Mecklenburg, Schwerin, Germany, was a stonemason and bricklayer. The fine work of these men is still on display in our village. Karl and William Beese built the stone house on the Morlock homestead in 1853. This house has been cited as the finest example of stone architecture in Puslinch Township by Professor Gordon Couling of the University of Guelph, an authority on stone buildings. In 1856 they built the stone schoolhouse on the Morlock homestead. In 1861 they built R. B. Morrison's yellow brick store.
Sometime after this, William Beese must have resettled in Carrick Township, Bruce County because his son, Rev. William Beese, was born there.
William Beese's children were: Charles of St. Marys, later Kitchener; Catherine (Kate, Mrs. Jake Wilker); Jacob of Melfort, Saskatchewan, later Alberta; Rev. William Ernst; Elizabeth (Mr. S. H. Holtzmann) of Chesley, later Hamilton; John L. of Kitchener; Edgar A. of Waterloo, E. E. of Winnipeg....
