- Alf passed away, peacefully, at St. Mary's General Hospital, on Monday, July 30, 2007, in his 79th year due to complications from pneumonia. Alf will be sadly missed by his wife of 51 years, Irene (nee Harper), his son Brian Dernesch and wife Terri of St. Jacobs, his daughter Christine and husband Gerald van Stuyvenberg of Ayr, and grandchildren Nashira, Shannon, Kate and Ariel, Leah and Noah. Also missed by Ken and Janet Perrin (nee Harper) of Woodstock and Cathy Dernesch of St. Jacobs.
Predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Josephine Dernesch. Alf retired from Carling's/Labatt's and began his full-time career in antiques where he enjoyed socializing in his store. Relatives and friends are invited to share their memories of Alf during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South in Waterloo on Wednesday, August 1 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service to celebrate Alf's life will be held in the funeral home chapel on Thursday, August 2, 2007 at 3: 00 pm. A reception will immediately follow the service at the funeral home. Interment at Erb Street Mennonite Cemetery. A special thank you to the nurses and doctors of St. Mary's Hospital, ICU for their compassionate care.
