- West Montrose
This village was named by A. L. Anderson, a native of Montrose, Scotland, who settled here some time between 1855 and 1860. As there was another Montrose in Welland county, this place had to be called West Montrose.

After the brief career of the daily edition in 1893 the Weekly Telegraph remained as a separate paper, in control of Alexander MacPherson. In May 1896, with the Berlin Publishing Company as proprietor and A. L. Anderson editor, the "Telegraph" resumed daily publication, and has so continued for now well over twenty-five years.

The Telegraph has been sold to the Berlin Publishing Company. It is understood that A. L. Anderson of Toronto will be editor. He will take with him into his new sphere of action a long experience, energy and capacity.
