Notes |
- REMPEL, Marguerite "Mama" - Went to be with her Lord and Saviour on Saturday, August 4, 2007 at St. Mary's Hospital at the age of 92. Beloved wife of the late Cornelius (C.J.) Rempel (January 13, 1994). Loving mother of Carol Giesbrecht (Norman), Paul Rempel, Betsy Petker (Ron) all of Kitchener. Much loved and fondly remembered by grandchildren Merri-Carol Giesbrecht (Bill Ruppel), Christopher Giesbrecht; Caryn, Teesha, Dan Petker; Hayley Rempel. Great-grandmother to Victoria, Christian, Sebastian Giesbrecht. She will also be missed by Matt and Kate Rooney, Deb Wallis and Donna Rempel. Also survived by sister-in-laws, Helen Rempel and Inge Barg and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by three brothers and two sisters. Marguerite (nee Barg) was born in Tiege, South Russia on July 24, 1915 and came to Canada with her family in 1926, settling in Vineland, Ontario, then moving to Kitchener. She married Cornelius Rempel in 1938. When he became the first executive secretary of the Mennonite Central Committee in Canada, she had the opportunity to travel to numerous countries and to welcome many guests from around the world into her home. There was always room for friends and family around her table and she loved to cook for a few or a crowd. She lived a life of faithful service to others, through her commitment to Kitchener Mennonite Brethren Church, Mennonite Central Committee, Gideons, her family and her friends. Anyone who knew Mama recognized that they had a special place in her heart and in her home. Marguerite's family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, August 7, 2007 (today) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St., Kitchener, 519-749-8467. Funeral service is at 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at Kitchener Mennonite Brethren Church, 19 Ottawa St. N., Kitchener. Pastor John Wall officiating. Private family interment will take place on Thursday. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Mennonite Central Committee would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home). Special thanks to friends and staff at Emmanuel Village and the doctors, nurses and volunteers at St. Mary's Hospital for their compassionate care.
