- Mrs. Gishler Dies; Retired Pastor's Wife
MRS. SYLVIA WEBER GISHLER, wife of the Rev. Abel D. Gishler, retired Syracuse clergyman, died today at her home, 107 Landon av. Mr. Gishler was former pastor of the old Immanuel Evangelical Church in S. Townsend st.
Born Jan. 10, 1878, in Heidelberg, Ont., Mrs. Gishler was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Louis S. Weber. She studied in Ontario schools and also at the St. Catherine's Ladies' College at St. Catherine's, Ont.
SHE WAS married May 14, 1902, to Mr. Gisher, who accepted a call to the First Evangelical Congregation in Canada. Later he served in Buffalo, and then Syracuse.
Mrs. Gishler was widely acclaimed for her social service work, and had served the City Missionary Society from 1929 to 1932, which carries on work supported by 65 churches of Syracuse and vicinity.
Surviving, besides her husband, are a brother, Lewis A. Weber of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; three daughters, Mrs. Wayland Buck of Syracuse, Mrs. Ralph A. Philorook of Aurora, and Mrs. John Glasemire of Buffalo; two sons, W. Stewart Gishler of Buffalo, and the Rev. Lewis Gishler, pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Muncie, Ind., and eight grandchildren.
Services will be conducted in the Elmer E. Price funeral home at 2: 30 P.M. Friday by the Rev. Michael Salmon, pastor of the First Evangelical Church, and the Rev. Dr. L. Ernest Otter of Furman Methodist Church. Burial will be in White Chapel Memory Gardens, DeWitt. Friends may call from 7 to 9 P.M. tomorrow and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Thursday.
