Principal of Hespeler's public school, James Beverly Norman, B.A., 62 Rife avenue, died on Thursday evening, at the South Waterloo Memorial hospital. He was in his 54th year. Mr. Norman was taken to hospital, last Monday, with pneumonia. A heart condition had previously required his taking a year's leave of absence from the school, but he had resumed his duties as principal, since last September. Born in Kitchener, Mr. Norman was the son of the late Lambert Norman and the former Mary Mason. His father had been a public school inspector in this area for many years.
HERE 11 YEARS
Mr. Norman taught in Kitchener before coming to Hespeler, 11 years ago, to assume the position of principal of the public school. He had interrupted his teaching career to serve in the armed forces during World War II, with the rank of captain, in the educational services. Mr. Norman was a member of St. James Anglican church. He was also a member of the New Hope Masonic lodge, Hespeler and a life member of the Hespeler Kinsmen club. He had served on the Victorian Order of Nurses board and contributed much towards minor hockey locally, having acted as secretary of that organization for a number of years. THE SURVIVORS
Surviving are his widow, the former Mary Atkinson and two hildren, John James, who is attending McMaster University, Hamilton and Mrs. Wilfrid From (Patricia) of Hespeler. There are two grandchildren, John and Susan From. Also surviving are a brother, Ralph Norman of Toronto and two sisters, Mrs. Robert King (Isabel), of Toronto and Mrs. Cedric Stuart (Connie) of Galt. The late Mr. Norman is resting at the Stager Funeral Home, Galt street, until noon on Saturday, when removal will be made to St. James' Anglican church for funeral service, at 2 p.m. Intermeit service will be conducted at the New Hope Memorial chapel, Hespeler cemetery.
