Notes |
- SITTLER, Gary It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Gary Steven Sittler on Tuesday, February 24 2015, in his home in Fort Nelson, BC. He was 62 years old. Gary was born and raised in St. Jacobs, Ontario, and was a middle son of the late Ken and Doris Sittler. He was the dear brother of Linda, Ken (Bryn), Darryl (Luba), Debbie, Tim (Norma), Rod (Julie) and Jeff (Nancy). Gary was the beloved husband of 39 years of Sandy. Loving father of Jeremy (Deidre), of Fort Nelson, Krista (Fraser), of Prince George, and extremely proud grandfather of Kohen and Ava. He will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews. He lived a life full of adventure, drawing him to many places and meeting many people who were very special to him. He played semi-pro hockey for 6 years in several places across the US. His love for the outdoors drew him to reside in Wawa, Ontario for 25 years and he instilled this passion for nature in his children and grandchildren. The forest industry brought him and his family to Fort Nelson in 1999; after working with Polarboard for many years, Gary enjoyed his last working years with the staff and students of School District #81 in the Maintenance Department. He always enjoyed his time hunting and fishing based out of his cabins and sharing these times with family and friends. The door was always open and if you could handle a little razzing, there was always fresh coffee and a fish frying on the woodstove. A Memorial Service will be held for Gary on Thursday, March 5 at 1:00 p.m. in the Northern Rockies Recreation Centre Community Hall. If desired, in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made in the form of a donation to the Fort Nelson Family Development Society, Fort Nelson Hospital Foundation - both in Fort Nelson, BC, or the Lady Dunn Health Center in Wawa, ON. A Celebration of Life will be held this summer in Ontario; date TBD.
