- GERMANN, Thomas C., C.E.T. At the Grand River Hospital, KW Health Care Centre on Thursday, April 11, 2013, with his family by his side. Thomas Carl Germann aged 86 years. Loving husband to the former Elizabeth (Betty) Fuith, dear father to Tom and his wife Joan of Mannheim, Mary Anne and her husband John Banks, Barbara and her husband Greg Billo, Bob and his wife Patti, Joan and her husband Paul MacDonald, Mark and his wife Lisa, all of Kitchener, father-in-law of Nancy Germann of Waterloo, brother to Catherine Bauer of Kitchener, beloved grandpa to 16 grandchildren. Predeceased by parents John Germann and Catherine Schneider, one son, David in 2000 and one infant granddaughter, Karen, three brothers, John, Wilfred and Robert and five sisters, Teresa, Margaret, Helen, Mary and Bunny. Tom attended St. John's grade school, St. Jerome's High School, 1st experimental grade 8 class, K.W. Collegiate Tech. Matric program, Tool and Die apprenticeship at Marsland Engineering. After several years of home study correspondence and University evening courses, he became a member of the Ontario Association of Certified Engineers and Technologists C.E.T. Tom served in the Royal Canadian Infantry during WWII and was active in the Boy Scout movement from Wolf Cub to Rover Scout and was one of five Rover Scouts attending a World Rover Meet in Norway in 1945. With brother Jack he started Wolf Cub Packs at St. John's and St. Francis, he played hockey and baseball in Kitchener minor sports and was a member of the O.H.A. Greenshirts finalists against DeLasalle College in Maple Leaf Gardens in 1945. He enjoyed membership in many Church Lay Groups and was a 15 year Volunteer at Freeport Hospital. Tom was the founding member of the family business, Custom Foam Systems (C.F.S.) Friends may call at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home , 621 King St. W., Kitchener on Monday from 7-9 and Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 where parish prayers will be recited at 8: 45 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday at 10: 30 a.m. From Our Lady of Lourdes Church with Bishop-Elect Father Dan Miehm officiating. Interment will be in Woodland Cemetery and donations may be made to the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre as expressions of sympathy through the funeral home.
