- MAYER, Rev. Anthony Charles, CR - At K-W Hospital, on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1982, following a massive stroke, age 79 years, Father Anthony (Tony) Mayer, CR. Born in Wellesley, attended St. Louis Elementary school, Waterloo and St. Jerome's College. Received his Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees from St. Louis University and acquired theological studies at Gregorian University, Rome, Italy, followed by further studies at De-Paul University, Chicago, Ill. Entered the Congregation of the Resurrection in Kitchener in 1920 and professed his first vows in Kitchener on September 8, 1921; ordained to the priesthood, December 17, 1927, in Rome, Italy.
Served as a teacher at St. Stanislaus College, Chicago, 1928 to 1934; St. Mary's College Seminary, St. Mary, Ky., 1934; principal, Weber high school, Chicago, 1935 - 1938; teacher, Scollard Hall high school, North Bay, 1938 - 1949; associate pastor, St. Mary's Parish, Kitchener, 1948 and appointed pastor in 1951, serving until 1959. Founder and first pastor of St. Francis RC Parish, Kitchener, from 1959 to 1965; pastor of St. Agatha Parish, July 1965 - 1975, retiring to Resurrection College Manor in July of 1975. Son of the late John Mayer and Elizabeth Buckel. He was the last surviving member of his family. Surviving are a number of nieces and nephews. Visitation at the Schreiter-Sandrock Funeral Home, 51 Benton St., Kitchener. Interment in the community plot of Kitchener Mount Hope Cemetery.
