- SHANTZ, A. Kathryn (Kay) Passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 21, 2014 in her residence at Nithview Home in New Hamburg. Kay was born August 18, 1927 in the little town of Rosebank and was a daughter of the late Gordon B. and Mae Hallman. Beloved wife of Wilbur Shantz whom she married August 16, 1952. Loving mother of Philip (Susan) Shantz of Kitchener, Connie (Rick) Radunske of Hamilton, Faye (Ross) Steckley of New Hamburg and Margaret Rittenhouse of Huntsville. Sadly missed by her grandchildren Chadwick (Dahlia), Rachel (Kevin), Brock (Kelly), Abby (Tim), Jonathan (Lindsay), Jayme (Tremaine), Aaron and Laura and her great-grandchildren, Lucy, Nolan, Trudy Mae and Mae Louise. Survived by dear sister Margaret Brueschwyler and sisters-in-law, Joanne Hunsberger, Kathryn Leatherman, Beth (Paul) Good and many nieces and nephews. Also remembered by Bob Radunske. Predeceased by son-in-law Wayne Rittenhouse, brothers and sister Willard (Terese) Hallman, Helen (Rothan) Hawthorn, Alice (Fred) Wallace, Jean (Garfield) Cressman, Robert (Elaine) Hallman and brother-in-law John Brueschwyler. Kay was an active member of the former New Dundee United Brethren in Christ Church and the Women's Missionary Fellowship. She belonged to the Wilmot Horticultural and Agricultural Societies and so enjoyed working in her flower beds on the Huron Road. Prior to her marriage, she worked at Kitchener Public Utilities Commission and after her children were grown, she worked in the office of Goudies Department Store in downtown Kitchener. Kay's family would like to thank the staff of Nithview Home for their love and care to "Mom" during the last three years. Family and friends will be received at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home , 291 Huron Street, New Hamburg on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will take place on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethel Missionary Church in New Dundee (1531 Bridge St.) with Pastor Robert Gates officiating. A private family interment will take place prior to the funeral service at New Dundee Union Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to Lydia Herrle Trust Fund c/o TD Canada Trust, New Hamburg and/or Hamilton Brain Injury Association.
