- Account in the Daily Record Feb. 11, 1926 - "Inland Revenue Department assisted by Provincial police unearth plant with 800 gallon daily capacity
Liquor distilling equipment valued to $4,000 including a huge still, boiler, worm, mash tins and other liquor manufacturing paraphernalia, was seized by the Inland Revenue Department assisted by Provincial Police at the farm of Otto Stein, Rosendale Comers, following a raid on the premises yesterday afternnon at 3.30 o ' clock. The still had a capacity of 800 gals, per day. It is alleged that it was being operated by local and Detroit interests, and that charges will likely be laidby Provincial Police.
The raid was made on the information of License Inspector Zinkann by the Excise Officer aided by Sergt. Melville, Constable Carroll, Prov. Officer Stack and Inspector Zinkann.
The still occupied three floors of the farm house, the boiler, which was a 30 H.P. capacity was installed in the cellar, as well as the mash tins, wnich were capable of holding 1,400 gals. On the second floor was the still of modern construction with doubler, while the rectifier occupied the third floor with a return pipe leading to the condenser on the 2nd floor , making it in every respect a modern distilery capable of producing 25 to 35 gals. per hour.
Ninety gallons of sealed liquor were also confiscated along with 300 empty gallon cans in crates.
A second still under course of construction was also seized. This included a worm made of two inch copper tubing and finish material for increasing the number of mash tons.
A portion of a third still, made of four inch copper tubing, two feet in width by six in height was also discovered by the officers. Carpenters are at present dismantling the house of all the equipment which will be stored in the Customs Department on Queen Street, where one truck load has already been deposited
