      Geo. A. Chase, M.A., Who Died In Ayr, Taught in Jarvis Collegiate. The death occurred in Ayr, Ont.. yesterday of George A. Chase, M.A., formerly master of English at Jarvis Collegiate. He was considered one of the best teachers of English in the province of Ontario, and was regarded as a great educationist. Twice he prepared geographies which were used in all the schools throughout the province, and, although of late had grown quite deaf, was very active mentally.

      Formerly Master of English at Jarvis Colleglate from 1889-1906, who died yesterday at his residence in Ayr, Ont.

      The late Mr. Chase was a native of Nova Scotia He was English master at Galt, Ont., under the celebrated Dr. Tassie; later he became principal of Ridgetown Collegiate, coming to Toronto in 1889 as English master of Jarvis Collegiate under the late Dr. Archibald MacMurchy. In 1906 upon his retirement his friends raised a fund, which is held in trust to provide the Chase prize. In the same year the Literary Society presented to Jarvis Collegiate a framed photograph, which now hangs on its walls, and before which the children to-day are to pass in respect. Two nieces reside in Toronto, Mrs. (Rev.) T. Wardlaw Taylor, and Mrs. Fred Rous. Mr. Chase is survived by his wife. The funeral takes place at Ayr.
