- Died Suddenly in Village of Ayr
John Urquhart Son of Prominent Family Here Was Born and Raised in Stouffville
Old friends here were shocked on Sunday to learn of the death of Mr. John Urquhart who passed away that day at his home in Ayr, Ontario. He was in his 63rd year, and for around 30 years had resided in the Waterloo village, which is noted for its foundry and plow works. John Urquhart was a moulder and learned his trade with the Fleurys when they operated in Stouffville long years ago.
Son of the late John Urquhart clerk and treasurer of Stouffville for many years.. John jr., was born here in the home where his sister May resides on Main street. Besides his, sister there now survives of this family only one brother Charles Urquhart, retired banker now visiting in the southern states.
Familiarly known by his old school chums here as "Mickey," John Urquhart played lacrosse with Stouffville when the games was in its hey-days here, and he was generally liked by everybody. He married Flora Latchford, daughter of the late David and Mrs. Latchford of this town. The bereaved wife and one daughter Betty live to revere the memory of one they dearly loved.
The funeral took place from the home of his sister in Stouffville, on Wednesday afternoon, thus was this old boy conveyed to his last resting place in Stouffville cemetery from the family home where he first saw the light of day, and from which he went in and out as a happy youth during his school days.
The pall bearers were F. L. Button, K.C., Frank Rae, K. R. Davis, Christie Armstrong, John Monkhouse, Wesley Boadway. Rev. L. E. Atkinson conducted the service.
