  Shantz, Saloma, daughter of Jacob B. and Saloma [should read Magdalena] Schmidt, was born in Waterloo, Ont., June 23, 1882; died at Nithview Home, New Hamburg, Ont., Aug. 2, 1972; aged 90 y. 1 m. 10 d. On May 17, 1905, she was married to David Shantz, who survives. Also surviving are 2 sons (Lorne and Stanley), one daughter (Eileen--Mrs. Gordon Burkhardt), 13 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. One son (Walter) preceded her in death. She was a member of the Shantz Mennonite Church, where funeral services were held Aug. 6, in charge of J. Lester Kehl and Leslie H. Witmer; interment in Shantz Cemetery. Schmidt, last surviving member of the Jacob B. Schmidt family, member of the Shantz Mennonite Church and WMSA of the church, survived by her husband David; two sons, Lorne and Stanley, both of Route 2, Baden; one daughter, Mrs. Gordon (Eileen) Burkhardt of Kitchener; also 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; predeceased by son Walter in 1946; also by three brothers and three sisters. Will rest at the Bruce J. Omand Funeral Home, 291 Huron St., New Hamburg, until noon on Saturday, when removal will be made to the Shantz Mennonite Church, Wilmot Township, for services at 3 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ontario Mennonite Mission Board.
