  • Notes
    • SIMMERS, Herbert Ernest With profound sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Herbert Ernest Simmers on Wednesday, July 4, 2018 at the age of 86. Herb was a caring, generous and well respected man with a great sense of humour. He was a devoted family man and a devout Catholic, dedicated especially to the COR youth group, choir and ministry. In his younger years as a pitcher for the Galt Terriers, he was scouted by the Brooklyn Dodgers. He developed a passion for swimming in his 50's, and as a Masters swimmer was awarded several medals. He also was an avid golfer and shot a hole in one. Herb will be deeply missed by the love of his life Doreen (nee Osborn), his wife of 66 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his children Susan (Peter), Sharon (Kent), Shelley, Jenny (John), Julie (Brad), Jayne (Steve), and Andrew, 15 grand- children, 11 great-grand-children, and counting. Herb was predeceased by his parents Adolph and Edith Simmers (nee Dinsmore), sister Mae Mertz, brothers Harold and Michael, and Roy and Loretta Osborn. Friends and relatives are invited to a visitation at Barthel Funeral Home (566 Queenston Rd., Cambridge) on Sunday, July 8th from 2: 00 p.m. to 4: 00 p.m. and 7: 00 p.m. to 9: 00 p.m. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Clements Church (745 Duke St., Cambridge) on Monday, July 9th at 11: 00 a.m. with private interment to follow at Parklawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society or the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Online condolences may be made at www.barthelfuneralhome.com
