Notes |
- We are sorry to report that our friend and neighbor, Mr. Solomon Nicklas passed into the great beyond on Sunday morning. Mr. Nicklas had been ailing for some time, but little did we think his time was so close by, which again shows us that a person is but a shadow and life is but a dream, which we all so little think about. Now a few remarks about our departed friend. Mr. Nicklas was a man well liked by all he came in contact with and he was possessed with an always honest and cheerful character. So sweetly he shall slumber and our sympathy goes to the bereaved family in their sad bereavement of a loving father.

Death came with startling suddeness to a well known farmer and highly esteemed resident of the Township of East Zorra, in the person of Solomon Nicklas, who passed away at the family home at Lot 28, Concession 17, early on Sunday morning.
Mr. Nicklas retired about midnight, apparently in his usual robust health. He awoke about three o'clock, complaining about a pain in his chest and expired within a few minutes, before medical aid could be summoned, death resulting from a heart attack.
The late Solomon Nicklas, who was in his 65th year, was a native of East Zorra, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Nicklas, and was born on the farm at Lot 28, Concession 17, where he spent his life time.
In the year 1894 he was united in marriage to Elisabeth Brodrecht, of East Zorra. He was one of the outstanding farmers in East Zorra, was well known and highly respected throughout the district and his passing has occasioned wide spread sorrow and regret.
There are left in deep bereavement his wife, one son, William at home, and three daughters, Alma and Mrs. Ben Dietrich at home, and Mrs. Wm. Lotz of Blandford. Surviving also are three sisters, Mrs. David Goetz and Mrs. John Hesse, of New Hamburg, and Mrs. Werner Brodrecht of East Zorra.
The funeral was held from his late residence on Thursday afternoon, with a service at the home at one-thirty o'clock, thence to St. Matthew's Lutheran Church where a memorial service was held. Interment was made in St. Matthew's Lutheran Cemetery, 16th Line, East Zorra. -Tavistock Gazette.

The funeral of the late Solomon Nicklas which was held on Thursday afternoon of last week at the East Zorra Lutheran Church and cemetery was one of the largest ever held at said church. People were present from all denominations to show their last love and respect to the deceased. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. Scheer and Rev. H. A. Kellerman; each of the two preached a very nice sermon. Mr. Otto Kalbfleisch, Tavistock, was the undertaker. So sweetly may our departed friend and neighbor rest after long years of heavy toll and burden. Gone, but not forgotten.
