TAVISTOCK. June 1-After an illness of about two months, one of Tavistock's best known citizens, and at the time of his death the oldest. Frederick Stegner died at his Hope street east home last evening. Mr. Siegner was 85 years of age, a son of Mr. and Mrs George Siegner and was born in Preston. For a time The lived in Millbank, moving to Tavistock when he was 17 years old. at which time he entered into the saddlery business with his brother, Eckhardt, from whom he purchased the business in 1873. In the same year he married Elizabeth Weicker. who predeceased him in 1912. In 1914 he married Miss Mary Weicker. who survives him. In 1928 he sold his business to his son, Walter, and though he retired from active participation in the business he still took a keen interest in it. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran church. Sebastopol.
Besides his widow he is survived by five sons, Karl of Windsor, William and John of Stratford. Rev. Herbert L. of Lockport, N.Y.. and Walter of Tavistock, four daughter. Mrs. Jacob Wittig of Tavistock, Miss Frieda Wittig at home. Mrs. George Gould of Woodstock, and Mrs. Wm. Schaefer of Elizabeth, N.J. One brother, Louis Siegner of New Hamburg. 32 grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive.
The funeral will be held from his home on Friday afternoon at two o'clock, followed by a memorial service at Trinity Lutheran church. Sebastopol. Interment will be made in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. O. T. Stockmann will be in charge.
