DEATH SUMMONS BELOVED WOMAN
Mrs. L. J. Breithaupt Passed Away Suddenly At Home Of Her Daughter in Boston Last Night
Residents of the Twin City will be shocked and grieved to learn of the sudden death of Mrs. L. J. Breithaupt of North Queen street which occurred at Boston during the night whither she had gone two weeks ago to visit her married daughter, Mrs. A. Vincent Bennett. Mrs. Breithaupt apparently had been in her usual health up to last night. She was found dead in bed this morning having passed away during her sleep. Only yesterday she had dispatched a night letter to her husband saying she would be home Wednesday. The family were reading a night letter and a letter from Mrs. Breithaupt at the breakfast table this morning. Shortly after the telegram, the distressing news of her death was received.
On her way to Boston, Mrs. Breithaupt stopped in Montreal in attend the commencement exercises at Mc Gill University where her son Paul received the degree of Bachelor of Commerce. She was accompanied on the trip to Montreal by her grand daughter, Miss Margaret Parry. She continued her journey to Boston unaccompanied. Mrs. Breithaupt suffered a slight stroke about six years ago but entirely recovered. She enjoyed excellent health of late and was active to the end. Her death comes as a tragic blow to her family, who have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends in their bereavement.
Born in Waterloo 66 years ago deceased was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Devitt. Her maiden name was Emma Alverine Devitt.
Deceased was an active member of Zion Evangelical church being prominently identified with the various activies of the congregation. She was a past president of the Ladies Aid of Zion Church and has always been active in the missionary societies of the church.
Besides her sorrowing husbands she is survived by the following sons and daughters: ex mayor L. O. Breithaupt, W. W. Breithaupt, Paul Breithaupt, all of this city, Mrs. (Dr.) John R. Parry, Hamilton, Miss E. Lillian and Miss M. Edna at home, Mrs. A. IR. Hewetson of Brampton and Mrs. A Vincent Bennett of Boston. One sister Mrs. John Hinchecliff, of Ottawa, and four brothers, A. H. Devitt, Kitchener, Aiva Devitt and E. M. Devitt, Waterloo and Dr. B. Frank Devitt, Philadelphia also survive her. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren.
Devoted to her home and church interests, Mrs. Breithaupt was a wife and mother whose influence in home and church circles will be keenly missed by those to whom her life meant so much. Possessed of a kindly personality her supremely Christian character endeared to all with whom she came in contact. He passing will be a source of extreme grief thruout a wide circle.
