  Nelson Shantz, "was born June 11th, 1865. He is married to Barbara Snyder. They reside near his father's home where he is engaged in farming." Eby, Ezra E. (1895). A biographical history of Waterloo township and other townships of the county: being a history of the early settlers and their descendants, mostly all of Pennsylvania Dutch origin: as also much other unpublished historical information chiefly of a local character. Berlin [Kitchener, Ont.]: [s.n.]. ______________________________________________ Shantz.-Nelson Shantz was born in Waterloo Co., Ont., on June 11, 1865; died June 8, 1930; aged 64 y. 11 m. 28 d. In 1886 he was married to Barbara Snyder. To this union were born 5 children. He is survived by his bereaved wife and family, and 3 sisters. Two brothers predeceased him. He was a kind and loving husband and father, many times sacrificing his own pleasures to make others happy. During his recent illness of 4 weeks he suffered very much and often expressed his desire to go to his heavenly home. In early life he became a member of the Mennonite Church and died in that faith. Funeral services were held at the Waterloo Church, Wed. June 11, by Bros. Manasseh Hallman and J. B. Martin.
