    • DR. R.W. FAULDS

The numerous patients and friends of Dr. R.W. Faulds will be grieved to learn that he too has fallen victim to influenza and its sequel pneumonia. Since the epidemic began Dr. Faulds had been busy night and day responding to the professional calls that were made on him. He worked most heroically for his patients, allowing himself a great deal less rest and care than he prescribed for them. During the beginning of last week he felt symptoms of the disease coming on and on Wednesday took to bed. The development proceeded rapidly and in spite of the best of medical aid that could be secured his condition was so bad last Saturday that very little hope of recovery was entertained. Dr. Howitt, of Guelph was called in but could hold out little encouragement. On Sunday the report was circulated that the end might be expected almost any time, but the patient lingered on until about on o'clock Monday noon, when the spark of life fled.

Deceased came to Elmira about nine years ago as successor to the late Dr. J. H. Ratz. He was known as an excellent and successful practitioner, and will be greatly missed by his numerous and grateful patients. For a number of years he held the position of local Medical Health Officer wherein he showed the qualities of discretion and firmness necessary in this important office. He was known as a man who had the courage of his convictions, and who was honourable and consistent in his dealings. In him Elmira loses a citizen who will be difficult to replace.

He leaves behind a widow and two young children. His aged parents live in London, Ont., whence his mother, accompanied by her daughter Mrs. Elson, of St. Thomas, came on Sunday in time to see him alive. His father, who was on a hunting trip with his other son, who lives at Edmonton, Alta., could not be located in time to respond to the summons to his bedside. The deceased will be greatly missed in the family circle where his genial and unselfish disposition endeared him to all.

Dr. Faulds was a graduate in Medicine of the University of Toronto, and prior to coming to Elmira was house surgeon at the Erie County Hospital, Buffalo. He was born at Harrietsville, Ont., thirty-six years ago, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Faulds. He was a member of the Masonic and Oddfellows' fraternities. He is survived by his parents, one brother, Oliver Faulds, of Edmonton; one sister, Mrs. J.M. Elson, of St. Catharines; his wife and two little daughters.

At the time Dr. Faulds was taken ill he was attending in the neighborhood of one hundred cases of influenza and was physically worn out from the strain.

The funeral was held on Wednesday afternoon at four o'clock, from his late residence on Mill St., to Elmira Union Cemetery. Rev. Webster, pastor of the Methodist Church, conducted the services.
