- MR. JOHN STARK IS LAID TO REST
OLD PIONEER OF WATERLOO COUNTY PASSED AWAY IN ELMIRA
One whose long life had been intimately associated with the activities of this district passed away last Thursday in the person of Mr. John Stark of Elmira. Mr. stark was in his eighty-seventh year, having been born on April the fifteenth, 1835, near the town of Waterloo. He came to Elmira as a young man where for sixteen years he carried on a successful carriage making business. For three years after his marriage to Agnes Kenning, of Elmira, he lived in Tilsonburg, but settled soon in Elmira. Subsequently, Mr. and Mrs. Stark moved to a farm on the third line of Pool where they lived for twenty years.
Mr. Stark's son then took over the farm and he and Mrs. Stark returned to Elmira to spend the remainder of their lives, Mrs. Stark dying in 1912. The late Mr. Stark is survived by two children, Mrs. Thomas Matthews of Elmira and Mr. Alverda Stark of Hawkesville.
The funeral took place Sunday afternoon from the home to the Presbyterian church for service, and thence to the Elmira Union Cemetery where the remains were laid to rest. The late Mr. Stark had been a life-long and consistent member of the Presbyterian church and an elder for a number of years. The following served as pall-bearers: John Mahood, Wm. Moser, John Small, Orrie Hollinger, L. A. Jeanneret and Emanuel Musselman. Rev. Dr. Blair of Gale Presbyterian church conducted the services at the home and at the church.
