    • Teacher 40 Years, Clara Rahn Dies

ELMIRA - Clara Rahn, public school teacher in Elmira for more than 40 years, died suddenly in Pompano Beach, Florida, Friday. Miss Rahn, of 56 King St., Elmira, started her teaching career in Floradale in 1924. Two years later she began teaching in Elmira at Riverside school. When the John Mahood school opened 15 years ago she started there as the school's first kindergarten teacher. In 1967 she was awarded the Centennial Medal for her long teaching career. She was still a member of the staff when she died. She was in Florida on a sick leave when she died. The sick leave was granted after she injured an arm in a fall last year. She went to Florida one week ago.

A daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Rahn, she was born in Desboro. Her family moved to Elmira when she was less than a year old. With the exception of the two years she spent in Floradale, she lived in Elmira all of her life. She was an active member of St. James' Lutheran Church, Elmira. She is survived by her sister, Vera of Elmira, and her brother, Arthur of Waterloo.

In The Record report Saturday the name of Miss Rahn was inadvertently reported as Vera. The body is at the Dreisinger Funeral Parlor, Elmira, where Rev. H. W. Baetz will conduct the service Tuesday at 2 pm. Burial will be in St. James Lutheran cemetery.
