- In Memory of Margaret Elizabeth Black 1919 - 2018
With heavy hearts, but thankful for her wonderful life of 99 years, we announce that our dear Mother, Peggy Black, passed away on Sunday August 12, 2018 at The Village of Winston Park. She was the beloved wife of John Sawyer (1975) for a short 29 years and the loving, devoted Mother to her six children: Alexander of Hamilton, Catherine (John Lysnes) of Cambridge, Frances (Steve Black) of Kitchener, Peggy (Denis Sokol) of Kelowna B.C., Patsy (Felix Siwanowicz) of Manotick, and John of Savannah, GA.
As Gram, she cherished her grandchildren: Claire (Andrew Kinnear), Victoria, and Simon; Ellen (Scott Mickelson), Philip, and Camille (Jesse Dors); Thomas (Shandy Couzens), James, and Olivia. Mom was thrilled to be a Great Gram to: Monty, Eddy, and Holly. She was Gramma to Rebecca (Gregory Coyne) and her children: Joshua, Eden, and Alexis.
Mom was predeceased by her parents, Edward M. and C. Florence (O'Neill) Arnold of Elmira and by all her siblings: Caye, Mary (Paul Greenhill), Bill (Pat), Eleanor (Jim Ferguson), John (Bev), and Florence (Doug Manners). Mom is also fondly remembered by her cousins: Helen Cox and Alix Lipskie as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mom was proud of her teaching career. She began teaching at Copper Cliff High School, after graduating from the University of Guelph and University of Toronto, then moved on to Peterborough Collegiate where she met Dad. Mom ended her career, of many years, teaching at St Mary's High School in Kitchener. Mom was gracious and kind, strong and loving and family meant everything to her. We have learned well from her example.
Friends and family are invited to share their memories of Peggy with her family during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo on Thursday, August 16, 2018 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., with Parish Prayers at 8:45 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes RC Church, 173 Lourdes Street, Waterloo on Friday, August 17, 2018 at 10:30 a.m., followed by a reception in the Church Hall. Interment will follow at St Theresa Roman Catholic Cemetery, Arthur Street North, Elmira, Ontario.
Thank you to the staff at the Village of Winston Park for Mom's care.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy made as donations to: Hospice Waterloo Region, Bladder Cancer Canada, Colorectal Cancer Canada, St Mary's Hospital, or Our Lady of Lourdes RC Church would be appreciated by the family and can be arranged through the funeral home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
