  • Notes
    • WILKIE, Dennis One of the hardest things in life is writing an obituary for someone you really loved. Dennis passed away at Missinaibi Provincial Park on Saturday, August 13, 2016, doing what he loved. Camping, fishing (of which he had one of the best days ever), campfires, fish fries and of course the odd beverage. We will all miss him; his wife Barb (hard to get good help nowadays) and best friend; his son Darren and his wife Karen and his daughter Paula, and of course his two favourite grandchildren, Ethan who was his fishing buddy and apprentice at Missinaibi, and Cailyn, his crib partner - yes he did let her win some games. Dennis will leave a void in everyone's lives. He always had a good story or a good joke to tell. He is survived by his brother Larry (Rose) and family, his sisters-in-law Jan McNeil (Gary) and family, Deb Prout (Bruce) and family, Jean Horst (Steve) and family, and brother-in-law Dave Horst (Joan) and family. Dennis was predeceased by his parents Abraim and Anne Wilkie, sister Darlene, father-in-law and mother-in-law Earl and Mildred Horst, and brother-in-law Jim Horst. Dennis will be missed by his fishing buddies at Missinaibi Provincial Park - George, Tim, Dave (Watty), Bruce and Ross, and by his Cape Breton hunting buddies Earl, Gerd and Bill. Oh how we will miss the funny stories and "happenings" that occurred during these times; life will never be the same. Dennis was a big Toronto Blue Jay fan, and never missed a game (on the radio of course). His armchair coaching will really be missed. Thank you to Ethan for being there with me, also Deb, Bruce, Logan, Devon and Kiera, without you it would have been a tougher time. Thank you to Logan and Kiera for performing CPR on Uncle Dennis, I know it was rough on both of you, but he would have been happy knowing you were there for him. To Wayne and Carol, Robert and Sue, Tina and Phil, Remy and Lorraine, your friendship and help meant more than you can know. Also to the park staff, Tony and Jeff, and the two OPP officers that stayed until the end, Constable Arsenault and Constable Lane, you guys were amazing. Thank you too to Ingo for being there. A big thank you to Darren, Karen and Paula, Ethan and Cailyn, without family it would have been even harder. There will be a "happy time" held for Dennis at the Elmira Legion, 11 First St. E., Elmira, on Saturday, September 24, 2016 from 4 to 9 p.m. Wear your best camp or fishing clothes in Dennis's honour, bring along your funny stories and remembrances. Dennis was the previous owner of Overland Plumbing & Heating Inc. for 25 years, and D.D.W. Plumbing & Heating Inc., with his son Darren for 15 years. As expressions of sympathy, donations to a fund for Missinaibi Provincial Park, Chapleau, Ontario, Dennis's favourite spot in the entire world, would be appreciated and may be arranged by calling Dreisinger Funeral Home , 519-669-2207. Cremation has taken place. Hopefully the fishing will be good in the next place on your journey. We will miss all the funny stories. Online condolences may be made at www.dreisingerfuneralhome.com
