    • LICHTY, Rev. Samuel

      Rev. Samuel Lichty, 64, of Phoenix, Ariz., formerly of the Linwood district, died on Sunday, January 1, in Phoenix after a long illness.
      Born on August 24, 1902, in Wilmot Township, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Lichty. He was an Amish Mennonite minister and also farmed and did carpentry work in the Linwood district before moving to Phoenix two years ago. He was a member of the Conservative Mennonite Church, Millbank.

      Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Schmucker, whom he married March 29, 1925, in Ohio; six sons, Jacob , of Wellesley; Daniel and Norman, both of R.R. 1 Linwood; Amos, of R.R. 1 Millbank; Samuel, of Heidelberg; and Emanuel, of R.R. 1, Wellesley; six daughters, Mrs. Sylvester (Nancy) Sauder, of California; Mrs. Carl (Anna) Kirby, of New Brunswick; Mrs. Mahlon (Mary) Gerber, of R.R. 1, Millbank; Mrs. Orville (Catharine) Godson, of Kitchener; Rebecca, of Toronto, and Ruth, of Phoenix; one brother, Jacob, of Wellesley; four sisters, Mrs. Katie Kuepfer, of Milverton; Mrs. Noah (Nancy) Gascho, of Aylmer; Mrs. Noah (Lydia) Roes, of R.R. 1, Milverton, and Mrs. Nicholas (Mary) Jantzi, of R.R. 1, Wellesley; 28 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

      He was predeceased by one son, three brothers and two sisters.

      The body will arrive from Phoenix late Thursday and will be at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Lichty, of R.R. 1, Linwood, afternoon on Friday. A family service will be conducted at the home on Saturday at 1:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at the Conservative Mennonite Church, at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Valentine Nafziger and Rev. Kenneth Brenneman will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
